First came typhoon and now comes tornado - first review of HTC Tornado with live photos available August 16, 2005 [MS Smartphone] | By Edward J. R. Motorola Q may have nice looks and stylish flat design, but it doesn't have built-in Wi-Fi. HTC Typhoon construction known among others as Audiovox SMT-5600 and Orange SPV C500 was the Microsoft Smartphone that brought real breakthrough in the world of Windows Mobile phones: the smallest smartphone in the world and very robust and reliable construction! Now HTC is rolling out next generation - HTC Tornado (to be sold as Qtek 8310 among others) and is adding not only megapixel camera and high resolution display 240x320 pixels, but also built-in Wi-Fi! This is dream-come-truth. Here is a quote from the review: The main innovation the device offers is Wi-Fi. Now, this is one of the first Wi-Fi smartphones, Nokia N91 announced earlier will be launched only after the Tornado. Besides fast Internet, Wi-Fi allows VoIP telephony (especially important for corporate users) and fast music download. For instance, an international T-mobile operator has a well-developed network of Wi-Fi hot-spots besides cellular networks. And these are not all the ways you can use the GSM/Wi-Fi bunch, though VoIP and access to media content are the most evident ones. Although Nokia N91 also is a smartphone (not PDA phone) with built-in Wi-Fi, it is however an overpriced top level model with built-in hard disk and low resolution (176x208 compared to 240x320 in current generation of Windows Mbile smartphones). Clearly feature-wise Windows Mobile is leading the market and users should consider abandoning idea of paying premium just for the "Nokia" label, if they can get Windows Mobile phones without this label but with much more features!
