P-Day is today : Push Email extension to MS Exchange Server to be available today for download August 19, 2005 [General] | By Edward J. R. This is nothing but revolution: MS Exchange 2003 with this extension (i.e. Service Pack 2) will turn into "truly push e-mail capable" - it is like "RIM BlackBerry infrastructure for poor people". Why "poor"? Because any company, even small one, that has MS Exchange server running to handle their email, will now become "push e-mail capable" - without the need to use costly BlackBerry servers and service fees... The download link is here (not active yet, but today it will be active - keep on checking it!). This extension will be called "Microsoft Exchange 2003 SP2 Community Technology Preview" and it is clearly not a final version but just pre-release evaluation version - so that system administrators could experiment with new functionalities before the full version will be released. In other words: it should not be installed on live MS Exchange installations because then whole groupware infrastructure in your company may be broken... so we advice you to install it only in a test installation of MS Exchange 2003. Please note, that to use push email in MS Exchange 2003 one needs Windows Mobile 5.0 device, so this is yet another reason why end users should stop buying Windows Mobile devices, that are equipped with older version of this operating system.
