New Pocket PC phone - Qtek 9100 - goes on sale
August 23, 2005 [Pocket PC phone] | By Edward J. R.

This news story is too good to be truth...

New Pocket PC phone - Qtek 9100

... and also now - as always, when new models are being released, some retailers are trying various tricks to attract customers and sell devices with a bit higher prices. What is behind the story of Qtek 9100 (HTC Wizard branded by Qtek) going on sale?

Certain online retailer is offering Qtek 9100 here with information that it will be available on October 1st, ... but in email to customers this retailer claims that this phone will be available already next week:

Just wanted to take the opportunity to advise you that our first delivery of this brand new product which was planned for mid October has been brought forward to NEXT WEEK. We will have stock available for immediate shipment.

For further details of the specification of this latest product in the comprehensive QTEK range which is available SIM FREE or with contract, please refer to our web site or call us for network connected pricing.

... and on top of that credit cards of customers who pre-ordered this phone, have been charged already!

What is going on? Is this legit? Well, the price that this company demands is 339.00 British pounds plus VAT, what clearly is a premium price. Officially first Windows Mobile 5.0 devices were supposed to be available commercially not before October 2005, and we have now yet August! It is very unlikely, that a small online retailer will launch Windows Mobile 5.0 devices ahead of mobile phone operators (that usually sell much more units), but it is not impossible. Our advice is, considering high price: please wait until this device will be "in-stock". Very often it happened in past that online retailers were claiming unrealistic availability dates, that were later many times postponed... and very often other retailers were coming up with the same device but for a much lower price...
