Celebrity news : father of podcasting uses Pocket PC phone too - and not just as a phone August 25, 2005 [Pocket PC phone] | By Edward J. R. If a retired millionaire, who has enough money to live off his bank account till the end of his life, and of course also enough money to buy any mobile phone, including platinum covered Vertu phones (price of one: over 21,000 British pounds), decides to buy Windows Mobile powered Pocket PC phone, then one must clearly see that Windows Mobile phones are the best. And if that would not be enough, he uses his Pocket PC phone not just for making phone calls, but also for other, more innovative purposes... Adam Curry:
... - former MTV VJ, and dot com millionaire - is back! After his career in MTV and subsequent Internet business adventures he retired at age of 40, and settled down in a posh suburbia of London - Guildford. However instead of spending his whole retirement on his hobby - flying airplanes - he spawned podcasting movement and community and managed to capitalize on this new phenomena by establishing PodShow company. His new company already now is successful: American satellite radio Sirius signed 2 year contact with it (if you are in USA: check out Sirius channel 148) and it received over 8 million USD of investment from venture capitalists. Keeping in mind that Adam Curry could have any phone, it is interesting to know that he actually owns Windows Mobile phone: T-Mobile MDA III Pocket PC phone! And he is using it not only for making phone calls (and Skype phone calls over Wi-Fi)! He is also using Pocket FMS (Flight Management System) - a completely free (!) program for Pocket PC to help him in his hobby flying. For example: with his Pocket PC phone, Bluetooth GPS receiver and with Pocket FMS program, Adam Curry is writing down trace of his flights to files in GPX format that can be later loaded to programs like Google Earth and visualized - as trace on sattelite images or as animations. Here is an example of a hobby flight of Adam Curry between UK and Netherlands (click on the image to zoom it):
Conclusions: example of Adam Curry proves that Windows Mobile phones truly are the best and, thanks to very big amount of available programs (more than for Symbian), also useful for other applications than just making phone calls. Now Adam Curry - the leader of podcasting movement - is thinking about even more innovative uses for his Pocket PC phone: geo-podcasting or recording audio reports combined with location information, so that listeners could follow the podcaster not only through their imagination, but also on a map (or on a satellite photo)...
