Samsung i300 approved by FCC - must be coming to USA soon ... August 27, 2005 [MS Smartphone] | By Edward J. R. Samsung i300 is the first Windows Mobile powered device with built-in hard disk! It is yet not clear whether it will be on the market before competition - Nokia N91 powered by Symbian also has built-in hard disk and also is coming soon - but we can already observe first signs that Samsung i300 will be released soon! While there are already some totally unchecked rumors, that Samsung i300 will be available at O2 operator in UK "soon", here comes confirmation that it also will be available in USA - it has been just (on August 23, 2005) approved by American FCC! FCC documentation contains not only external photos of this phone:
... but also several internet photos of Samsung i300 like this one:

Conclusions: Samsung i300 clearly is coming very soon, however it doesn't have built-in Wi-Fi like competition (i.e. like Nokia N91 - also with hard disk but with Wi-Fi) and it has neither mini-SD nor SD card slot - just Transflash (so called "micro-SD") card slot! In other words: it will not be possible to add Wi-Fi to Samsung i300 after purchase. Samsung i300 however has display 240x320 pixels (more than in Nokia N91 that has only 176x208) and also possibility to attach to PC and to be visible as regular memory drive (i.e. without ActiveSync)! One must remember that nowadays mini-SD and SD memory cards of size 1GB and 2GB are available now (4GB coming soon) very cheaply and generally for many people SD card solution is simply better (SD card can be replaced and moved around, while hard disk is fixed). Since FCC has approved Samsung i300, it means that this phone can go on sale in USA very soon (probably in October - the official time when Windows Mobile 5.0 devices will be released for sales)...
