Information from T-Mobile Germany follows.

All-rounder in pocket format: T-Mobile launches sale of innovative MDA Pro.
  • Mobile mini notebook integrates W-LAN, UMTS and GPRS technologies in one device
  • Extensive features including full keyboard, large screen and two integrated cameras
  • New Windows Mobile 5.0 operating system offers numerous Office functions and improves data storage
It can do (nearly) everything and fits in almost any pocket: the MDA Pro, available from T-Mobile Deutschland from September 1, combines innovative technology, optimal functionality and ultimate convenience in a small space. The mini notebook is one of the first mobile devices worldwide to integrate the three technologies W-LAN (Wireless Local Area Network), UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System) and GPRS (General Packet Radio Service). Further features include a very large color screen, full keyboard and Windows Mobile 5.0 operating system. The new highlight in the T-Mobile "Office in your Pocket" offer enables business users to work on the go almost as conveniently as in their office. With the MDA Pro, they can, for example, access the company network quickly or receive emails with large attachments via broadband connections to the T-Mobile network. As the optimum platform for quick and easy access to the World Wide Web, the MDA Pro is perfect for those who frequently use T-Mobile’s web’n’walk offer for mobile access to the Internet.

"With the MDA Pro, we are writing a new chapter in the success story of our MDA portfolio", said Martin Knauer, Director of Marketing at T-Mobile Deutschland. "We are now offering our customers an MDA that can hardly be beaten in terms of versatility and convenience." Since the first model was introduced in 2002, T-Mobile has succeeded in joining the ranks of the world’s leading providers of pocket computers with mobile devices in the MDA (Mobile Digital Assistant) range. With a market share of around 40 percent, T-Mobile is the clear market leader for PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) phones in Germany.

The MDA Pro sets standards for mobile offices and mobile Internet surfing. Incorporating W-LAN as well as UMTS and GPRS means that the fastest network variant is always available to the user wherever they happen to be. This is W-LAN at the 5000 T-Mobile and T-Com HotSpot sites in Germany; UMTS transmits data via broadband in many regions, and GPRS ensures speed in the remaining areas. This makes the MDA Pro the best mobile connection to the company network or the Internet almost any time and everywhere. The device’s full keyboard makes entering emails easier, the large TFT screen (480 x 640 pixels, 65,000 colors) displays menus, texts, pictures and Internet sites in crystal-clear quality.

Practical: when the screen is open, it can be rotated on its own axis and folded back down. The mini notebook thus becomes a touchscreen pocket PC within seconds. This makes it ideal for use in airplanes - the transmission and receiver unit can be switched off when using the device above the clouds.

The MDA Pro is the first mobile device on the German market with the new Microsoft operating system Windows Mobile 5.0. One major benefit: this system permanently saves all data stored on the MDA Pro - even if the battery is completely run down. The new operating system also offers comprehensive Office features. Word, Excel and PowerPoint files that users have received as email attachments can be processed using MDA Pro. Outlook Mobile allows appointments, contacts and tasks to be administrated. For easy synchronization with the PC, the package also includes the full version of Microsoft Outlook for PC. The MDA Pro has a 43.5 megabyte internal memory for storing data, photos, ringtones, etc. There is also a socket slot for an MMC/SD memory board. The Active Sync software allows data to be synchronized with several PCs, i.e. office PC and home computer. The device has a Bluetooth and an infrared interface, as well a USB one. The 520 megahertz Intel Bulverde processor ensures data is processed rapid and reliably in all applications.

The MDA Pro’s two integrated cameras allow photos to be taken and video sequences to be recorded. The main camera produces extraordinarily high quality pictures with a resolution of 1.3 megapixels. The flash or what is known as "night mode" ensures the correct exposure. It goes without saying that users can send the pictures by MMS. The MDA Pro’s second camera is used mainly for videocalls via T-Mobile’s UMTS network. Apropos telephony: the MDA Pro supports telephone conferences and voice dialing. As it is triband-enabled, it can also be used in parts of the US. The MDA Pro is also well equipped in terms of entertainment - users can play MP3 files with their favorite hits and watch videos using the integrated media player and the stereo speakers.

The MDA Pro costs 499.95 Euro including a 24 month postpay contract with the Relax 100 rate or 430.99 Eurro (net) with a contract with the BusinessRelax 100 rate.
