HP says: Windows Mobile 5.0 upgrade for PDAs : yes, for PDA phones : no September 02, 2005 [Pocket PC] | By Edward J. R. Upgrades are available for PDAs but not for phones. HP once again fails badly its own customers... It is a shame that HP dares to sell new model of Pocket PC phone with no upgrade path to Windows Mobile 5.0! The upgrade is available only for PDAs: HP iPAQ hx2110, hx2410, hx2415, hx2750 and hx2755. Upgrade to Windows Mobile 5.0 for hx4700 has been postponed. To learn more about upgrades of iPAQs to Windows Mobile 5.0 click here: http://www.hp.com/go/ipaqupgrade. Conclusion: do not buy any Pocket PC phone from HP ... unless it will be powered by Windows Mobile 5.0 - because HP clearly has policy of not providing such upgrade for phones. Since HP hw6500 series Pocket PC phones with built-in GPS receiver are manufactured by HTC, HTC is withholding itself from producing its own phones with built-in GPS. In other words: HP still has monopoly on Pocket PC phones with built-in GPS - particularly because eagerly awaited Mitac Mio A701 Pocket PC phone with built-in GPS still is not available ... and still is not yet even officially announced. Users should however be very careful and should wait for HP's competion, rather than buy a phone with outdated operating system and with no upgrade path...
