Review : 3G video calling with Windows Mobile ( with T-Mobile MDA Pro Pocket PC phone ) September 08, 2005 [Pocket PC phone] | By Edward J. R.
As the first in the world we present here test/review of international video calling with help of Windows Mobile phone - T-Mobile MDA Pro! We present images and also video recording of the video call!
First of all here is how incoming video call looks like (please note: it is clearly and explicitly visible that the phone call is a video call):
On image above please observe letter "U" in a square icon in the title bar (which denotes "UMTS")! With 2G phones there is "G" there (which denotes "GPRS"), but with 3G phone for UMTS, in the coverage area of UMTS 3G network, a letter "G" appears! Sometimes one side of the video call uses pre-defined and static image in the video call, instead of a dynamic image from the camera:
However this is not a problem - one tap of the stylus on the camera icon is switching the camera on:
... and then both sides can see each other dynamically:
After the video call is ended the person who called be either called by voice or video (see red button with "Video" text on it):
Here is a dialog with settings that makes it possible to set your pre-defined options during video calling:
These pre-defined options may be: default image of a woman, default image of a man or some custom static image that will be displayed for the other side of the video call! As you can see above the video calling that we tested was between Vodafone UK and T-Mobile Germany! Incredible but true: it works! However we haven't heard yet of somebody, who would manage to make video calls with T-Mobile MDA Pro between T-Mobile and T-Mobile ... Conclusion: video calling works, also with Windows Mobile (!), and is usable, for example to check on your girlfriend or your wife, whether she is cheating on you or not:
