O2 Asia to release Xda Atom September 15, 2005 [Pocket PC phone] | By Edward J. R. Not only O2 Asia and O2 Europe usually release different models of phones but sometimes even O2 Germany and O2 UK release different models... so it is impossible to say whether this phone will ever come to Europe... Apart from photos:
... nothing is known but we reckon that this is just HTC Magician with new case and powered by Windows Mobile 5.0 but it is also possible that it is not HTC Magician compatible device and thus some hardware changes are in it. On the other hand if O2 Xda Atom would be hardware-wise compatible with HTC Magician and powered by Windows Mobile 5.0, then good people from xda-developers.com would certainly extract ROM image from O2 Xda Atom and would make it available to very big number of owners of HTC Magician - the most popular Pocket PC phone of all times - known also as i-mate JAM, T-Mobile MDA Compact, Orange SPV M500, etc. Anyway: O2 Xda Atom is a sign of things to come: all Windows Mobile phones not powered by Windows Mobile 5.0 will be phased out and replaced with those powered by 5.0! Conclusion: users should not buy phones powered by Windows Mobile 2003 - in this way distributors and operators will be forced to either bring ROM upgrades to 5.0 or to bring new models with 5.0 faster.
