VNC server for Pocket PC released September 20, 2005 [Pocket PC] | By Edward J. R. This is very good news for owners of Pocket PC devices equipped with Wi-Fi! With PocketVNC you can have VNC server (yes, not just VNC viewer or client) in your Pocket PC - so that you can access your Pocket PC device remotely (through Internet also possible if you will open VNC ports in your router/firewall properly)! VNC clients are available for all platforms, also for Mac and Linux computers, so PocketVNC can be really useful... Here is an example of this VNC server running inside of Pocket PC and connecting to it from regular PC with Windows XP with use of a regular VNC client (we have tested it and it works!):
Symbian phones can't do it! The VNC (Virtual Network Client) provides a convenient way to access the visual output of servers or workstations, that have no graphic output device, or are hard to reach physically. Input, in form of keyboard and pointing devices, as well as the visual output is transmitted over the network to control the remote host. The PocketVNC server was implemented to offer the functionality of a VNC server running on a PocketPC device. The PocketVNC project is no portation of the original open source VNC server for Windows, instead it is a complete new implementation on the PocketPC platform. The Hextile encoding algorithm used in the original RealVNC Server was changed to offer more performance on mobile devices.
