Rumor: O2 Xda Atom is NOT made by HTC but by Quanta ! September 20, 2005 [Pocket PC phone] | By Edward J. R. This is very interesting and ground-breaking news, because although HTC seems to dominate Windows Mobile market, HTC fails however to deliver some features that users really want, like: FM radio, combined support for EDGE+UMTS, Wi-Fi 802.11g and 802.11a, camera with decent quality, camera with auto-focus, etc ... and the fact that Quanta could in fact start producing Windows Mobile phones would be incredibly good for competition and for fans of Windows Mobile ! Here is a rumor about O2 Xda Atom (a phone that is about to be released by O2 Asia by the end of this year): The Pocket PC Phone is actually not from HTC but form Quanta Computer Inc, QCI is the biggest notebook manufacture company in the world. [...] Here is the detail Specification: - Intel PX273 416Mhz + 64 M Flash (MCP) - 64 M SDRAM - 2.7" NEC TFT LCD - Build in 802.11b WLAN - Build in FM Radio - 1.3M or 2M CMOS Camera - Bluetooth 1.2 - Dual Speaker in front - Windows Mobile 5.0 - Voice command - Media center for FM,MP3,Video and Photo Conclusion: while we usually don't publish such rumors, this one is too important! Anyway: nobody related to HTC circles knows of this phone, so clearly chances are high that Xda Atom is not manufactured by HTC ... and since Quanta is such a big and established corporation may only mean that they can produce Windows Mobile phones with even more features than HTC! On the other hand: only HTC has such good connections with operators in Europe and USA, so that the fact that Xda Atom is not made by HTC, means also that it could be even later (if at all) released in USA and Europe. In any case: entrance of Quanta into Windows Mobile phone market may really change a lot! On the other hand we must admit that we have seen several Chinese (i.e. from Hong Kong, mainland China, Taiwan) manufacturers with various models of Pocket PC and Smartphone phones that never materialized... so at the end it may be that if operators in USA and Europe will not pick Xda Atom for distribution, it may never become available there! (similarly like it is with many many Pocket PC phones that are on sale in Korea but never ever come to USA or Europe).
