Major reorganization at Microsoft: Windows Mobile division gets new boss September 21, 2005 [General] | By Edward J. R. This is a major reorganization of Microsoft and mainly it is caused by big delays in releasing next version of Windows: Windows Vista (formerly known as "Longhorn") but by the way, also partially, albeit superficially applies to Windows Mobile... as of now: Windows Vista desktop version should be on the market by the end of 2006 and server version in 2007... and probably main purpose of this reorganization is not to miss these deadlines once again, particularly because in year 2006 Apple Corporation is releasing Mac OS X for Intel processors, what may ruin whole Windows business for Microsoft... Robbie Bach is the name of the new boss, who will be bossing around the new "Microsoft Entertainment & Devices Division" part of which will be former Windows Mobile division. In other words: Xbox division and Windows Mobile division will be now in one structure, but we doubt that it will result in a Windows Mobile phones dedicated to gaming (although there is certainly demand for such devices - after all Sony PSP is nowadays extremely successful)... Unfortunately the old management of Windows Mobile division stays unchanged... they just get new "uber boss" in form of Robbie Bach. The new Microsoft Entertainment & Devices Division, which combines the current Home and Entertainment Division with the current Mobile and Embedded Devices Division, will consolidate Microsoft’s industry engagement around devices to deliver even richer and more relevant scenarios for individuals at work, at home and when they’re mobile. It will also bring more focus to the company’s efforts in entertainment and related devices and services. Accordingly, the senior vice president of Microsoft’s Mobile and Embedded Devices Division, Pieter Knook, will report to Bach. To learn more read here.
