i-mate inadvertently leaked information about i-mate K-JAM ! September 24, 2005 [Pocket PC phone] | By Edward J. R. While previously information about i-mate K-JAM was leaked through various online retailers (that usually just want customers to pre-order the phones at higher prices - and that's why they do it), however now i-mate itself leaked detailed specifications of imate K-JAM! We say "leaked" because there is no link to this page of i-mate K-JAM anywhere on the website of i-mate, but the page is online!
Some parts of this specification sound almost too fantastic: Wi-Fi with support for 802.11 b/g/e/i (and not just 802.11b) and 2.0 Megapixel Built in Camera (and not 1.3 megapixel as widely expected) and 3D surround sound! Something must be wrong here.... or maybe some extended variants of i-mate K-JAM are coming... here is the detailed specifications of i-mate K-JAM as provided by the source - the i-mate itself: Overview: Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz GSM / GPRS / EDGE 128 ROM 64 RAM Built in QWERTY keyboard Bluetooth Compatible MiniSD Card Memory Expansion 64k Colour Transflective LCD Built in Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/e/i 1.3 / 2 Megapixel Built in Camera Integrated Antenna Features Platform * PDA form factor integrated quad-band GSM/EDGE, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, 1.3/2 mega-pixel camera, and sliding QWERTY keyboard * Theme: messaging * Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC Phone Edition Dimension * 108 mm (L) x 58 mm (W) x 23.7 mm (T) * 150 g with battery pack Processor/Chipset * TI OMAP850, 200 MHz Memory * ROM: 128 M (for programs and users' storage) * RAM: 64 MB SDRAM LCD Module * 2.8" 240x320 dots resolution * 64k-color TFT Transflective LCD with white LED backlight * Sensitive Touch Screen * Support both Portrait and Landscape mode (keyboard sliding and soft button on today screen) * Screen rotation icon (portrait, right-hand landscape, or left-hand landscape) and key lock icon (lock or unlock) on the bottom of status bar GSM/EDGE Function * Internal antenna * Quad-band (850/900/1800/1900) * Audio codec: AMR, EFR, FR, HR * SMS (MO, MT), concatenated SMS (640 characters) * Supplement services: * Call holding/waiting/forwarding * Call barring * CLI (Calling Line Identity) * Display own number * Network selection * Cell broadcast * Multi-party conference call * Spool icon * Phase 2+ unstructured supplementary service data * Network Lock * EDGE Functionality * GPRS class B * Multi-slot class 10 * PBCCH * EDGE Coding Schemes: * MCS 1-4 in UL/DL (GMSK) * MCS 5-9 in UL/DL (8PSK) * Incremental redundancy: * Selective Type I ARQ and Type II hybridARQ * SIM * 1.8V / 3V operation * SIM Application Tool Kit release 98 class 3 * Over the Air (OTA) programming * FDN * ADN * SDN * Security Pin 1 & 2 control Stylus Lock type mechanism Keyboard/Button/Switch * Power button * One navigation pad (5-way) * Send / Hands-free button * End button * Voice command (right side)= * Voice recorder (left side) * Volume up & down * Camera capture * 2 AP buttons (Messaging-left button, Portal or PIE-right button) * 2 soft keys Notification * One bi-color LED for GSM standby, GSM message, GSM network status, notification, and charging status * Two respective (blue and green) LEDs for Bluetooth / WiFi notification * Vibration for notification * Notification by sound and message on the display Audio * Built-in Microphone * Receiver * Dual speakers on both sides with 3D surround sound * Loud speakers for Hands-Free support * Full duplex * Audio sampling rate * 16-bits with 8 KHz, 11 KHz, 22 KHz, 44.1 KHz * AMR / AAC / WAV / WMA / MP3 codec Camera * Main Camera (manufacture option) * CMOS 1.3 Mega pixel with fixed lens * Video / flash light * Preview Mirror Interface * Infrared IrDA SIR * Mini-SD card slot with door (top) * External antenna connector * 3V SIM card * 2.5 diameter stereo audio jack Power * Battery * Removable and chargeable Lithium ion polymer battery, 1200 mAh * Battery life * PDA mode: 10 hours (running multimedia) [TBD] * Talk time: 4 ~ 5 hours [TBD] * Standby time: 200 hours [TBD] AC adaptor * AC input: 100 ~ 240V AC, 50/60 Hz * DC output: 5V and 2 A [TBD] Device-to-Device Connectivity * Bluetooth * Compliant with v1.1 * Class 2 transmit power * Supported profiles Co-exist with Wi-Fi * WiFi (manufacture option) * IEEE 802.11b/g/e/i compliant [TBD] * Internal WLAN antenna * 11, 5.5, 2, and 1 Mbps per channel, auto fallback for extended range * ELP mode * Infrared IrDA SIR * Mini-USB * Mini-SD Value Added Applications * Camera capture utility * Camcorder (H.263 and MPEG4 encoder and decoder) * Polyphonic MIDI Ringtone Engine * IntelliDial * IntelliPad * MMS with video clip support * MPEG4 Video / Audio Streaming Services * JAVA virtual machine (J2ME, CLDC1.1, MIDP 2.0, JTWI) * Voice command / voice dial * OMA DRM 1.0 * SVG Tiny / Basic (MMS only) SW * Wireless Modem (IR, USB, Bluetooth) SAR * 0.618 mW / 10 g Source: i-mate K-JAM page at website of i-mate Conclusion: i-mate K-JAM goes on sale at the beginning of October 2005 (next month) and while September was "a month of HTC Universal" (because T-Mobile MDA Pro and i-mate JASJAR went on sale), the October may well be "a month of HTC Wizard": not only i-mate will start selling HTC Wizard (as i-mate K-JAM) but also O2 will be selling it as O2 Xda mini S (in Germany) and O2 Xda Mini Pro (in Asia). What is with HTC Wizard in UK? It will be available online only - through various shops. i-mate has been selling i-mate JAM at Dixons at airports in UK so there is hope that i-mate K-JAM will be on sale at Dixons too...
