Microsoft woos Palm developers big time !

Microsoft writes: "If you are a Palm OS application developer and are new to Windows Mobile, this page includes several resources that will help you get started."

... and Microsoft has just published web page with "palmos" in URL (OS? not just Palm?) that contains links to various articles for developers! Full list of these articles is here.

One of the most interesting articles there is Windows Mobile Primer for Palm Developers that compares Palm OS and Windows Mobile from the developer point of view. Some quotes:

Programming at both the beginning level and the advanced level is easier for Windows Mobile than it is for Palm OS. The following points summarize the key benefits of programming for Windows Mobile:
  • Wide choice of approaches, from rapid application development with the .NET Compact Framework to powerful Win32 native code
  • Mature, proven operating system with powerful, easy-to-use features
  • Simple and robust use of emulators and SDKs
  • Wide variety of support available online and in print
Clearly for Windows Mobile division of Microsoft that contains many people involved with contacts with developers, the new "Treo for Windows Mobile" from Palm is a boon, however they shouldn't get too complacent: globally Symbian still has over 95% of market share in smart phones...
