Treo for Windows Mobile sighted at CTIA 2005 conference September 28, 2005 [Pocket PC phone] | By Edward J. R. As far as "the most interesting trade show related to mobile phones in USA" clearly not CES in Las Vegas, but CTIA in San Francisco is the most interesting one! One of more interesting news is that this Treo for Windows Mobile from Palm is actually very small in size:
... and that a version of this Treo for UMTS (a 3G technology competitive to CDMA-EVDO, used now mainly in Europe and Japan but soon to be rolled out also in USA by T-Mobile USA and some other carriers possibly) is coming too: Later, during the extensive question and answer period, we learned that Windows Mobile Treo would be out on Verizon "early, early next year," and then would probably be available from other major carriers (i.e. Sprint) in the second half of 2006 - implying Verizon has a six month exclusive on the smartphone. We were also told that the phone will come out on additional 3G networks (such as UMTS and/or HSDPA) in the second half as well. To learn more about Treo and about CTIA 2005 click here - you can find there many photos, including close-ups of Treo (click on thumbnails there to get them zoomed) taken from all angles! Please note: above remark about HSDPA is not quite correct because HSDPA is just a latest version of UMTS with speeds up to 1.8 megabit/second compared to 384 kilobit/second for old version of UMTS. For example in Germany both T-Mobile and Vodafone are selling now PCMCIA cards for laptops for UMTS that already support HSDPA although UMTS networks of these carriers will support HSDPA next year, not this year!
