Meet Mio A700 GPS PDA phone - an Asian version of A701 Pocket PC phone with built-in GPS October 03, 2005 [Pocket PC phone] | By Edward J. R. While the European version of this phone - Mio A701 Pocket PC phone with built-in GPS - was announced by Mitac lately, it hasn't been released commercially by now, and now an information about Asian version of this phone - A700 has leaked (to the left: A701, to the right A700):
Should you consider buying one of those phones? No! Why? The problem is that Mitac (or rather Mitac's division - Mio Technology) not only is missing out on design - for many people Mitac's designs are by no means appealing, but even worse: these phones lack built-in Wi-Fi! If this phone wouldn't be spoiled by lack of Wi-Fi otherwise it is a very interesting construction: very fast processor (520 MHz), very modern GPS chipset built-in (SiRFStar III), Bluetooth 1.2 (not 1.1) and of course powered by Windows Mobile 5.0 for Pocket PC. To compensate for lack of Wi-Fi this phone should at least have EDGE or UMTS but these are also missing... ... so for people interested in buying a Pocket PC phone with built-in GPS we recommend the upcoming HP iPAQ hw6715 Pocket PC phone - it has also built-in Bluetooth and, as premium, user gets also Qwerty keyboard. Higher resolution photo of A701 is here. Credit: Alexandre Habian from Mobinaute.
