Internal interview with Microsoft Senior VP Pieter Knook about Palm Treo for Windows Mobile October 03, 2005 [Pocket PC phone] | By Edward J. R. Unfortunately Windows Mobile has 3 bosses: Ya-Qin Zhang, Suzan DelBene, and Pieter Knook:
It is "unfortunately" because it is always better for any business unit to have one major boss that is responsible for everything instead of having trio and having all responsibilities diluted. Anyway Pieter Knook has just given an interview to "PressPass" (or in other words: PR of Microsoft) about Palm Treo for Windows Mobile: A feature that Palm had been unable to implement with Palm OS enables users to decline a call with a friendly SMS, signaling “In a meeting” or “Talking with the boss” instead of simply ignoring the call. And the new Treo allows users to rewind, delete or fast-forward through work or cell phone voicemail with familiar and consistent on-screen icons. While it is true, that Palm has added interesting features by writing their own software on top of Windows Mobile 5.0, most important however is that Windows Mobile powered Treo inherits excellent one-hand usability where writing even longer texts with one hand is a bliss. Please note: rumors that Palm is going to make also Symbian based Treo smartphones are totally fake and untrue. Not only CEO of Palm denied it but also they contain a lot of wishful thinking on part of Symbian fans. The reality is that by now Symbian and Windows Mobile were not so much competing directly - and that Microsoft have seen more Palm OS than Symbian as a competitor. After all Palm OS based Treo smartphones are number one in USA and even Symbian plays no major role in this segment (PDA phones) in USA. Now, after defeating Palm OS, maybe Microsoft will start more seriously competing with Symbian - particularly with Series 60 - the primary engine of Symbian's success...
