Microsoft smartphones score high in detailed test of all music phones October 09, 2005 [MS Smartphone] | By Edward J. R. Prices of memory cards are falling and the size is increasing, for example: now we can buy memory cards of size 1 GB (mini-SD) and 2GB (SD) for reasonable prices. Therefore no wonder that more and more people are starting to use their phones as MP3 players - after all - contrary to regular MP3 player - one cannot miss a phone call and usually incoming phone call is just pausing the music playback - that resumes after the phone call ended. In this very detailed test of all music phones Windows Mobile phones were beaten only by a one model from Sony Ericsson... and scored better than Motorola ROKR (the one equipped with iTunes): The most popular in Germany computer magazine "Computer Bild" has tested extensively (including professional measurements of sound quality) all music phones and here is the list (winners at the top): 1. Sony Ericsson W800i 2. T-Mobile SDA Music (Microsoft Smartphone!) 2. Vodafone VDA Music (Microsoft Smartphone!) 4. Nokia N90 5. Motorola ROKR (the one with iTunes from Apple Corporation) 6. Nokia 6230i 7. Samsung SGH-ZM60 8. Siemens M75 Why these 2 Microsoft smartphones were beaten by Sony Ericsson W800i ? Because it has apparently better sound quality and longer battery life. Very low prices - around 330 Euro - were considered as big advantage of Microsoft smartphones. Otherwise the only complaint about these Microsoft Smartphones was: slow transfer of music files from PC! If only Microsoft could implement "logical drive" feature that Samsung i300 and some Palm devices have, this problem could be solved... Conclusion: already existing (old) Microsoft smartphones score very high in a test of music phones. The latest models of Microsoft smartphones that have built-in Wi-Fi could score even higher - after all one can then use Wi-Fi (speeds: up to 11 megabit/s) to transfer music files...
