HTC extends marketing efforts October 18, 2005 [General] | By Edward J. R. The very poorly designed and very modest web site of HTC has been extended lately with new pages: products ! Some strange new Pocket PC phone with built-in GPS appears in these pages... what may be a mistake, and interestingly HTC divides its products into current models and historical models. You may be surprised to learn that your new Windows Mobile phone is already "historical": As you can see here HTC considers the following phones to be "current": "PDA Phone - 3G UMTS Version" (i.e. HTC Universal also known as T-Mobile MDA Pro, etc) and "PDA Phone - CDMA EVDO Version" (i.e. HTC Apache also known as PPC-6700, etc - but maybe it is not HTC Apache because HTC says that it has GPS). Interestingly HTC Wizard Pocket PC phone and HTC Tornado smartphone are missing! As you can see here HTC considers the following phones to be "historical": "Smartphone" (i.e. HTC Typhoon, also known as Orange SPV C500, etc), "PDA Phone" (i.e. HTC Blue Angel, also known as T-Mobile MDA III, etc), "PDA Compact" (i.e. HTC Magician, also known as Orange SPV M500, etc) and "Smart Music Phone" (i.e. HTC Amadeus, also known as T-Mobile SDA Music, etc). While above pages are good sign - they present overview information of all phones and also some high resolution images, still HTC's website is not as informative as it could be: for example no user manuals are available. Anyway: it is visible that HTC is searching more pro-actively for distributors and mobile operators, that would wish to buy HTC phones and sell them to end customers. By now this marketing efforts were left to current distributors (like i-mate and Qtek) but clearly HTC probably is not satisfied with work of these distributors if it is increasing its own marketing efforts... * * * * * Here is example of marketing efforts of i-mate - an advertisement of i-mate JAM that one can see in tube (underground trains) in London, UK (click on the photo to see close-up): ![]()
