Microsoft celebrates release of HP iPAQ hw6500 in USA but analysts say: no Windows Mobile 5.0 so do not buy it! October 18, 2005 [Pocket PC phone] | By Edward J. R. Microsoft has launched new section at their website devoted to HP iPAQ hw6500 series phones just released by Cingular:
... but analysts are extremely angry and say clearly "no matter what features it has, don't buy it because it doesn't have Windows Mobile 5.0". At first let's take a look at what Microsoft writes: Integrated GPS, high-speed data and world phone capabilities for maximum productivity on the road.
Interestingly analysts from MSM (Main Stream Media) write the following: First and foremost, instead of running the newest mobile operating system that was shipped by Microsoft five months ago — Windows Mobile 5.0 — the hw6500 is running Windows Mobile 2003. Since 5.0 is designed to overcome many of the shortcomings in WM2003 (as all major OS upgrades invariably do with respect to their predecessors), this decision, regardless of how it came to be, has in my opinion, set the device up to be a dud. For 5.0-based devices from HP, you'll have to wait until 2006Q1. ... I don't care what features HP packs into this device, the selection of Windows Mobile 2003 over Windows Mobile 5.0 makes it a non-starter in my book. Conclusion: don't buy this phone.
