Microsoft woos developers to create new mobile apps and to win Award from Microsoft !
October 30, 2005 [General] | By Edward J. R.

Winners will receive great prizes including; a Qtek 9100 Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0 device; free version of Visual Studio 2005; tailored marketing services and support plus access to the globally recognised Mobile2Market programme; plus free distribution through www.handango.co.uk and www.expansys.co.uk to help you convert your idea into a sales success.

... but since when taking away 50% of money that end customers pay to distributors, is called "free distribution"? Furthermore Microsoft writes:

Can you create an innovative and easy-to-use mobile application, with real commercial potential? Microsoft is offering a lot more than just cool mobile devices and free Visual Studio 2005 software as prizes for the best in each of our six mobile applications competition categories.

[...]

Develop your application on Windows Mobile

All applications entered in the competition must be developed for Windows Mobile 5.0 devices. Competition categories cover consumer and business applications, and there's no limit to the number of applications you can enter.

A team of independent adjudicators will select winners based on a two-stage assessment process. Stage 1 will evaluate your initial idea in terms of originality and category fit. Stage 1 winners will then be invited to participate in Stage 2, where applicants will be invited to develop their applications using the new windows mobile developer resource kit which will be sent to you. Applicants at this stage will be judged on creativity, including the design and use of the latest tools, and on technology, such as .net compact Framework 2.0, as well as ease-of-use.

If you are a developer with a Windows Mobile app to showcase, you may register your interest in a form linked from this page (that however requires you to sign in with a Microsoft .NET Passport - like the one you use to log in to MSN Messenger) and Microsoft may (or may not) contact you with further details...
