Vital Scan Smartphone diagnostic software released in beta version
October 30, 2005 [MS Smartphone] | By Edward J. R.

If your car has Bluetooth enabled sensors, than with this program you can take advantage of these sensors with plenty of useful functionality! Moreover: next time you will be buying a car, you can pay attention that it will be equipped with such sensors ... so you can use your Microsoft smartphone to take advantage of them...

This software displays live trip data, live fault information and on-board fault check status, diagnostic sensor data, reads diagnostic trouble codes, and clears the "check engine" light. It works in these steps:
  • Your OBD Bluetooth Transmitter is being discovered and connected.
  • Once the vehicle's ECU is accessable, a wait screen is shown
  • There are options to connect via Bluetooth or to simulate some data traffic from a vehicle
  • Live sensors are updated frequently
  • The number of sensors supported depends on your vehicle. Up to 80 may be detected.
  • Increasing data values are shown in blue. Those that are decreasing are highlighted in red with static data shown in black.
  • The sensor data may be used to assess vehicle performance.
  • On your Smartphone you may use the right arrow, or nudge the joystick to the right to go to the next page of sensors.
  • Choose Trip Logs from the Options Menu
  • Your trip is logged with current speed, average speed, total distance, trip time, average and current fuel economy and total fuel usage.
  • You may reset the trip data at any time and view the data in different units (e.g miles or kilometres).
  • Fault data stored by your vehicle is always accessible. Fault codes are displayed with MIL lamp status and a fault description.
  • The inspection and maintenance statuses are displayed at the top of the screen. Tests which are completed are shown in green.
  • From the faults menu, select Reset ECU to reset all the ECU fault codes.
  • Once the ECU is reset the fault codes will be erased
  • Using the VitalScan simulator for the Smartphone requires a text message to be sent. This is merely a feedback mechanism and will not cost more than your standard SMS tariff. This does not apply to the demonstration program, only the beta release version
