Yearly scam from Pocket PC Magazine continues : software awards 2005 announced November 10, 2005 [General] | By Edward J. R. Pocket PC Magazine has found a funny way to do something dirty and get away with it: they gather publicity and advertisers for their publication and at the same time they pretend, that list of objectively the best software for given year is being announced. This year's winners can be found here. They have been picked by webmasters and on-line editors, who in turn were hand picked by Pocket PC Magazine staff. Criteria of this selection was: eagerness to make enough publicity for Pocket PC Magazine. The fact is that if Pocket PC Magazine would like to organize truly objective yearly "best Windows Mobile software" competition, they could establish on-line voting system and make it possible for everybody to vote. Current system is susceptible to fraud because some of the editors and webmasters, who judge there are in business relationships with some of the developers. Additionally the sample of judges is not representative and too small to call these awards "objective" by any means. * * * * * Interestingly some companies are using these nonobjective best software awards organized by Pocket PC Magazine as a big opportunity for publicity as you can see here, where Japanese company Access gloats about winning again in this competition. Clearly this best software awards organized by Pocket PC Magazine is very biased and not objective, so we urge you not to pay attention to the winners but instead to download trial version of given software and try yourself before taking buying decisions! * * * * * The Windows Mobile MVP assignments are pretty much a mess and here in the case of Pocket PC Magazine one can observe it too: several editors and writers for this magazine are awarded MVP although actually they are being paid monthly salaries. Wasn't MVP supposed to be awarded to enthusiasts? Maybe it's not completely false but clearly influence of Pocket PC Magazine is too big and Microsoft should clearly take away MVP title from all editors of Pocket PC Magazine who were ever paid. * * * * * Last not least the Pocket PC Magazine is censoring news and stories, so in reality you can't get the whole story if you keep reading it! The fact is that you don't need to buy Pocket PC Magazine at all - if you only have access to Internet, where you can find many sites that not only bring you more information but also give you the whole story!
