Microsoft Reader debacle in Windows Mobile 5.0 still (!) continues November 18, 2005 [Pocket PC] | By Edward J. R. In a microsoft.public.reader newsgroup Microsoft Reader Team confirms that problem still (!) exists, although we were reporting about it already some time ago and that Microsoft Smartphone platform is not worthy porting Microsoft Reader to it - it is available only for Pocket PC - the bigger platform in Windows Mobile duo. Here is what Microsoft writes: There is an open issue that our activation is currently not working on some WM 5.0 devices. A resolution has been found to this issue and testing is underway. We hope to be able to release sometime within the next few weeks. As soon as we have a publicly available update I will be posting a link to this newsgroup. We know that this is important to our customers and appreciate your continued patience until that time. Sincerely, Christine - Microsoft Reader Team The person responsible for decreasing functionality in ActiveSync for Windows Mobile 5.0 still hasn't been fired, so we assume that people responsible for these problems with Microsoft Reader also will not be persecuted. After all when last time somebody was fired by Microsoft for doing something wrong with Windows Mobile? Well, it was in year 2004 when Microsoft fired Juha Christensen - former boss of mobility at Microsoft. Maybe it is time to come back to this old tradition and fire people who removed Wi-Fi synchronization over ActiveSync, who broken Microsoft Reader in Windows Mobile 5.0 and who are guilty of a big delay in release of push email component for Windows Mobile? Well, it's unlikely because Suzan DelBene, who is one of vice presidents for mobility at Microsoft, and who never ever before this job had to do anything with mobility, got her job only thanks to her husband who also works at top managerial position at Microsoft, and who arranged it for here - and it means that people will not get fired for making mistakes with Windows Mobile, even big mistakes. In the view of the fact that Microsoft is awarding MVP also to people who don't deserve it due to very small contributions or who are destructive for the community, and is omitting people with huge contributions (like Dave Ciccone), one can really get impression that Microsoft prefers to live in its own imaginary world, instead of facing real needs of customers. Furthermore on December 6, 2005, this year's invite-only Mobius 2005 (or rather "Möbius 2005" to be precise) conference takes place and we have been not invited although some websites of traffic and influence several times smaller than ours - have been indeed invited! Microsoft has forgotten one basic principle: "customers are always right".
