RIM worried about Nokia but not about Microsoft November 21, 2005 [General] | By Edward J. R. RIM saying that, it is not worried about Microsoft is a strong signal that should convince Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer to fire some people at Windows Mobile division of Microsoft - for not trying hard enough. Something is going wrong if main competitor of Microsoft (in enterprise market - exactly the market that Microsoft targets the most) is laughing Microsoft's efforts in mobile phone industry out! This is very important news item! Read on! RIM - a company from Canada that is manufacturing RIM BlackBerry devices, selling BlackBerry software and offering push e-mail service, is saying openly "we are not scared of Microsoft!". Despite the fact that push e-mail is a core business of RIM and despite the fact that Microsoft will introduce Q1 next year a push e-mail solution for Windows Mobile 5.0 that is superior to RIM's solution (for example: no monthly fees required, MS Exchange + Windows Mobile 5.0 phones suffice) - RIM claims "we are not worried about Microsoft and push e-mail is not that important but other things are important"! What? Since RIM publicly says that it is not worried about Microsoft then we must assume that it must be worried about Nokia, that lately purchased Intellisync - a company specialized in push e-mail ! What is going on? Why RIM is not scared of Microsoft if everybody else is? Balsillie said "persistence and contextualization" of Internet services will drive growth -- not the operating system or simple push e-mail. Some observers maintain Microsoft has a better play against Research In Motion because its six-month-old Windows Mobile 5.0 operating system, when combined with its recently released Exchange Service Pack 2, offers push e-mail for the first time. But Microsoft's past efforts in the mobile space, such as its acquisition of SendIT, massive investments in satellite carriers and developing many iterations of Windows Mobile and CE have had little success To read more click here.
