New version of Microsoft Reader resolves DRM problems with Windows Mobile 5.0 phones
November 24, 2005 [Pocket PC] | By Edward J. R.

We were the first to report, that problems with DRM ebooks in Microsoft Reader in new Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC phones exist. It took some time that Microsoft realized that the problem exists but now new version of Microsoft Reader has been released and the problem seems to be resolved!

What a pity that Microsoft managers are too incompetent to understand that both Microsoft Reader and Office Mobile should be ported also to MS Smartphone platform, that is now not less potent than Pocket PC...

In newsgroup microsoft.public.reader Microsoft employee "Christine" writes:

An update Microsoft Reader (v. 2.4.1) is now available at
http://www.microsoft.com/reader/downloads/ppc.asp .
What's new?
  • Windows Mobile 5.0 activation support
  • Ability to install Reader to removable media and retain ability to activate without copying files.
  • Ability to install Reader to removable media without having to copy font files
  • Shortcuts are now created at install time assuring that the shortcut points to your install on removable media. Anything that I need to know before I install?
On WM 5.0 you will notice that you will now have the choice about where to install the activation CAB that is downloaded during activation. Use the device location or activation will not be successful.

Existing ROM installations are proving difficult to work around and so it is recommended that you hold off installing until we have defined steps established early next week.

Sincerely,
Christine - Microsoft Reader Team

If you need further support or have questions regarding MS Reader with Windows Mobile 5.0 the best place is microsoft.public.reader newsgroup that is available on msnews.microsoft.com server - accessible with any NNTP news reader, for example with Outlook Express. Above mentioned "Christine" is active there and answering any questions and addressing issues.
