HTC 2100 smartphone coming soon to Cingular, USA - crippled ! December 01, 2005 [MS Smartphone] | By Edward J. R. There is a rumor, that Cingular is delaying release of new Windows Mobile 5.0 powered devices until Q1 2006 - until Microsoft will release the upgrade with push email component for Windows Mobile. If this delay would not be enough, here comes another problem... The history of Windows Mobile is a history of crippling. But if also Microsoft itself makes heavy mistakes like crippling MS Smartphone with regard to Pocket PC - not porting Office Mobile and MS Reader to MS Smartphone - then why mobile operators should be worse? As we reported before HTC 2100 Smartphone is coming to Cingular USA. This is a smartphone of latest generation - powered by Windows Mobile 5.0 and with EDGE support. In a documention on FCC website (it includes results and photos from testing of the device + user manual) about this smartphone one cannot find any reference to Wi-Fi and in fact Wireless Manager utility is missing Wi-Fi too:
... what practically is a proof that HTC 2100 smartphone coming to Cingular USA soon will in fact be crippled and will have no Wi-Fi. Similar situation was with Orange mobile operator in Europe, that launched Orange SPV C600 also crippled although based on the same hardware as similar phones from i-mate and Qtek are based - but these phones have built-in Wi-Fi! Some highlights about this phone:
