Google Gmail supports MS Smartphone December 16, 2005 [MS Smartphone] | By Edward J. R. Maybe you have been wondering what is the purpose of those strange keys of your smartphone:
Well, Google has the answer for you: these keys can be used to control your email - to invoke shortcuts - with just one single press of the key:
In image above on the left side you can observe numbers that correspond to keys from keypad of your smartphone. Instead of scrolling down and selecting a link, you can just press the appropriate button and given functionality will be invoked immediately! But that's not all, Google brings you also possibility to answer e-mails by making a phone call (instead of answering e-mails by e-mails):
This functionality is possible however obviously only if you previously assigned a phone number to a given contact (person from whom you got the email). Microsoft however is concerned that some website may be fooling you into calling suspicious numbers, so it asks 2 times:
... before actually making the phone call:
Undoubtedly Google mail (Gmail) is the best e-mail system in the world, so it is good news to learn that now all Windows Mobile devices can handle it with increased effectiveness (obviously MS Smartphone is better thanks to direct shortcuts). If you have Gmail account just enter in your Windows Mobile device address "m.gmail.com":
... and you will be able to enter your user name and password:
After successful log-in process, you will be able to do all usual operations on your emails, including sending emails:
At the end of the session you can log-out:
... but you don't have to do it! On top of it you can also download and open attachments and do many usual operations on your email. While "m.gmail.com" is not only for Windows Mobile phones but also facilitates email handling for users of BlackBerry, Symbian and regular cell phones, clearly it supports Windows Mobile very well... and thanks to the shortcuts usable in MS Smartphone, you may be able to handle emails even faster than with Pocket PC phone (or other touchscreen-only PDA phone)!
