Vodafone Germany launched HTC Wizard as VPA compact II
December 19, 2005 [Pocket PC phone] | By Edward J. R.
While O2 Xda Mini S (another incarnation of HTC Wizard) costs just 499 Euro, the VPA compact II seems overly overpriced - it costs 799 Euro (both prices without cellphone service subscription). Since Vodafone has operations in various countries, probably it will go on sale also elsewhere.
However for people who already have contract with Vodafone or would like to get one, this phone may be an interesting proposition. Vodafone is one of the strongest proponents of UMTS - a 3G technology widespread in Vodafone divisions in UK, Europe and Japan - so since this phone lacks UMTS - that's why it is not so strongly subsidized as UMTS phones.
Here is some information about this phone - directly from Vodafone:

- size: 109 x 23,7 x 58 mm
- battery: 1150 mAh (Li-Ion)
- stand-by time: 200 hours
- talk time: 5 hours
- PDA mode: up to 10 hours
- GSM quad band : 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
- camera with resolution: 1.280 x 1.024
- flash light: no, photo light: yes
- memory card: mini SD
- Wi-Fi : IEEE 802.11b (explicitly 802.11b is mentioned therefore we may assume that 802.11g is not supported for sure - as it is with T-Mobile MDA Vario)
- QWERTZ keyboard (i.e. German QWERTZ layout and not English QWERTY layout)
