AvantGo for MS Smartphone coming in Q1 2006 + AvantGo for Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC available December 22, 2005 [General] | By Edward J. R. Thousands of people are reading each day msmobiles.com through full (not just cobbled together custom channel but full channel) AvantGo channel. These people use mostly Pocket PC, but also Palm OS and Symbian Series 60 and UIQ. However not Windows Mobile smartphone, because there is no AvantGo client for MS Smartphone yet... In an audio interview from November 2004, AvantGo told us that AvantGo client for MS Smartphone is "coming soon, next year" but now it looks like this time it will be for good because it is announced on the website of AvantGo: more information from AvantGo follows. * * * * * Question Does AvantGo support Windows Mobile 5.0? Answer Yes, AvantGo installs and runs on Windows Mobile 5 Pocket PC devices. Please install the latest version of AvantGo, version 6.0.3006, with Windows Mobile 5 devices. Important notes: -- VGA screen resolutions are not yet supported. A beta will be released in Q1 2006 that includes support for VGA screens. -- Windows Mobile Smartphone devices are not yet supported. A beta will be released in Q1! that includes support for Smartphone devices. --AvantGo must be re-installed following every install of Microsoft Active Sync --If you experience problems syncing through Active Sync: make sure the Pocket PC OS version installed on your device is 5.1.1702 or greater (Go to: Start > Settings > About). If your device has a previous version of the Pocket PC OS, check with your device manufacturer to see if an OS upgrade is available. Alternatively, you may initiate an AvantGo synchronization from the AvantGo client. From the AvantGo toolbar (bottom of screen), select Tools > Sync.
