DopplerMobile Beta 2 released December 23, 2005 [General] | By Edward J. R. DopplerMobile is a free podcast catcher and RSS reader for Windows Mobile 2003 for Pocket PC and for Windows Mobile 5.0 (both smartphone and Pocket PC). Interestingly DopplerMobile requires .NET Compact Framework 2.0 that is not yet in ROM of Windows Mobile 5.0 devices but unlike A2DP or push e-mail can be installed from an additional download and without the need to upgrade the entire ROM image - what however may be too cumbersome for some users... but having ability to synchronize feeds and download podcasts directly to your Windows Mobile phone is precious: DopplerMobile requires a functional Internet connection, either being in the form of GPRS, UMTS, WIFI or just a normal ActiveSync connection where the phone can share the internet connection with your computer. If you use GPRS or basically any data plan where you will have to pay for every byte received and sent, please take notice of the fact that DopplerMobile downloads feeds from the internet and thus as a result will cause your phone bill to increase. We advice you to use DopplerMobile either on an unlimited data plan or by using WIFI or the ActiveSync connection. DopplerMobile runs on devices running Windows Mobile for Pocket PC 2003, and Windows Mobile 5.0 (both Pocket PCs and Smartphones). DopplerMobile requires the .NET Compact Framework 2.0. This is not pre-installed on the currently available Windows Mobile 5.0 devices or Pocket PC 2003 devices. In order to install this, download the .NET Compact Framework 2.0 redistributable and install it prior to installing DopplerMobile. Interestingly DopplerMobile supports podcasting: You will see a small headphone in front of a post the moment there is a podcast or an enclosure connected to it. In order to download the podcast either select “Download podcast” from the menu in the posts overview, or open the post and then select ‘Download podcast’ from the menu. Doppler will start downloading the podcast and it will be saved to \My Documents\My Podcasts on your device.
