Latest rumors from Taiwan : Windows Mobile phones coming from Acer, more details about Treo phones from Palm

Apparently Commercial Times publication that is written in Chinese language very often has interesting scoops about manufacturing of Windows Mobile phones by Taiwanese and Chinese companies. The latest rumors (i.e. not confirmed yet by referenced companies) are:
- while in past Palm was releasing (roughly speaking) just one Treo smartphone per year, in 2006 it will launch 3 Treo phones: Treo of code name "Hollywood" for CDMA2000 (to be manufactured by HTC), cheaper Treo of code name "Lowrider" (to be manufactured by Inventec) and Treo without code name (yet) for WCDMA (i.e. UMTS, to be manufactured by HTC) - read more here
- in second half of 2006 apparently Acer wants to launch 3G (UMTS) phones powered by Windows Mobile - read more here
Conclusion: since details, as you can see, still are sketchy and not confirmed, but the image that emerges from these rumors is:
- (at least) 2 new PDA phones powered by Windows Mobile and designed for UMTS networks will be released in second half of 2006 by Palm and Acer. Lack of UMTS phones powered by Windows Mobile is the main competitive disadvantage with regard to Symbian and it is good to see that something is going on in this area...
- out of 3 new smartphones to be released by Palm, it looks like 2 of them (those made by HTC) will be powered by Windows Mobile and one by Palm OS
