Verizon Wireless USA launches 3 NEW Windows Mobile phones ! Treo 700w goes on sale TODAY !!! January 05, 2006 [Pocket PC phone] | By Edward J. R. Symbian? No, Symbian is not a serious consideration for Verizon Wireless - a mobile operator from USA. Apart from Samsung i830 Pocket PC phone, Verizon launches 2 other Pocket PC phones today, including the revolutionary Palm Treo 700w for single-handed QWERTY pleasure:
... and the fantastic UTStarcom XV6700 with built-in Wi-Fi and slide out keyboard for 2-hand thumb typing enjoyment:
While Palm Treo 700w is available starting today (January 5, 2006) for 400 USD with 2 year contract, the XV6700 will go on sale January 19, 2006 for 300 USD with 2 year contract. Please note that while Treo 700w has inferior technical specification to XV6700: just 240x240 display compared to 240x320 and lacks built-in Wi-Fi, it has clearly superior usability - single handed typing is possible with it while with XV6700 users must use 2 hands to type with its (slide-out) keyboard. Therefore choice of the device must be based on personal preferences and not on sheer technical specifications... particularly because with flat-rate mobile data plans, Wi-Fi becomes practically not needed. One is for sure: Treo smartphones achieved in past cult status and now with Windows Mobile Treo being on sale in USA, this cult will most probably continue and by the way will boost significantly the Windows Mobile platform...
