Microsoft awards more Windows Mobile MVPs ... in a hurry
January 05, 2006 [General] | By Edward J. R.

While previously after being nominated an MVP title, it took sometimes even 1 year and more to be actually awarded MVP, this time it looks like Microsoft is in a hurry with awarding maximal number of MVPs in minimal time: the interval between nomination and awarding has been drastically shortened...

Probably Microsoft wants to show off to Palm and other mobile industry players that it has very vibrant and big community! However is quantity of MVPs congruent with their quality? Is it maybe time to fire at last Andrew Brown, who is responsible in Microsoft for Windows Mobile MVPs?

MVP is a title being awarded to activists in online forums, newsgroups and publications and in local user groups. MVP stands for "Most Valueable Professional" and actually is an award/status that lasts 1 year and may be prolonged (most MVPs get their MVP status prolonged each year).

In latest days (January 2006!) Microsoft has awarded MVP to several people who have been nominated just a few weeks ago! It is not certain, who they are yet - they all are not yet on the Microsoft's public list of MVPs on the Internet.

However as an example of new (and public) MVP awards we can take Clinton Fitch - public profile about him is already available on public Internet here (full official list of Windows Mobile MVPs is here).

Clearly people like Andrew Brown have some cryptic and hidden criteria of MVP selection because web traffic of websites to which Clinton Fitch contributes is extremely tiny: Alexa Traffic Rank for clintonfitch.com: 1,172,394 and Alexa Traffic Rank for hpcfactor.com: 266,789 . Therefore we must conclude that also this year (2006) Microsoft's decisions about awarding new MVP titles not only lack transparency, but are also very dubious.

Disclaimer: once again we have been omitted by Microsoft despite having web traffic thousands time bigger than that of websites of above mentioned Clinton Fitch! (Alexa Traffic Rank for msmobiles.com: 16,317) Clearly Microsoft doesn't like people who dare to say openly about their problems, without hiding what is good and what is bad. Clearly Microsoft (or maybe just Andrew Brown and some people from Windows Mobile related divisions?) prefers to surround itself with yea-sayers and yea-sayers only... so another year arrived (2006) but obviously (as we have showed above with traffic comparisons) Microsoft MVP programme still is corrupted...
