SlingPlayer Mobile coming soon to Windows Mobile, but not to Symbian phones January 10, 2006 [General] | By Edward J. R. Sling Media is selling now in the USA boxes that make it possible to watch TV from home (for example) at work or while traveling. They are now announcing that soon (first quarter 2006 possibly) they will launch SlingPlayer for mobile devices (Windows Mobile only! no Symbian) and that their boxes will be available also in Europe (that uses PAL TV system, instead of NTSC used in the USA). Unfortunately Sling Media is one of those over-hyped companies that create a lot of buzz before actual product is launched and it is too early to say whether SlingPlayer for Windows Mobile is a vaporware or not... and let's don't forget that also other bigger companies (including Microsoft itself) will be offering similar solutions... SlingPlayer Mobile, a new software client that gives Slingbox customers the ability to watch and control their home TV from any wirelessly-enabled Windows Mobile smartphone or handheld computer. The new SlingPlayer Mobile software supports all flavors of Windows Mobile including Windows Mobile for Pocket PC and Windows Mobile for Smartphone, and is compatible with both Windows Mobile 4 and the recently released Windows Mobile 5 operating systems.
