Windows Mobile rumors from Verizon Wireless, USA January 23, 2006 [General] | By Edward J. R. Motorola Q still is not released commercially, push e-mail patch was released by Microsoft to manufactures but it still has not arrived to the end users, and generally people are a little bit confused. So to clear the situation here come some rumors from our secret sources at Verizon Wireless... and since Verizon Wireless has exclusivity on 2 hottest Windows Mobile phones plus it goes from strength to strength in releasing windows Mobile phones in general, these rumors may be interesting both for Americans (that can become Verizon Wireless customers if they wish) and for the rest of the world (because Verizon release dates influence release dates for the rest of the world)... Read on! Here is summary of rumors:
Conclusions: Motorola Q is not cancelled (yet) but is still undergoing tests now (result may be negative after all) and (most probably) will be released soon at Verizon Wireless, that has exclusivity period of 6 months for several hot Windows Mobile phones, including Treo 700w and Motorola Q. However Verizon is a mobile operator and "soon" means for mobile operators sometimes even 3 months... Interestingly AKU 2.2 is in works already and Microsoft proceeds with releasing of push e-mail despite being sued by Visto. As you can see from these story, despite delays, there is progress underway behind the scenes. Verizon Wireless release dates are essential for other mobile operators too, because both for Treo 700w and Motorola Q Verizon has exclusivity for 6 months. In a related story it looks like RIM, the makers of BlackBerry devices and service, have lost a lawsuit and will get soon court order to stop service in USA. This may open window of huge opportunity for Windows Mobile and Microsoft's push email technology, but if end users will not get Windows Mobile 5.0 devices with push e-mail to their hands soon... then this opportunity may be squandered.
