CORRECTION: Woize for MS Smartphone and Pocket PC is NOT based on SIP January 27, 2006 [General] | By Edward J. R. Previously we have written that Woize is a SIP based VoIP (Voice over IP) application for Windows Mobile. We have just got however information from Helena Radeson from Woize, that our assumption was wrong: Woize is not SIP based, it is indeed SIP compatible, but that is enabled by the system handling this via different gateways. I.e. it is not the Woize client that is SIP based. ... or in other words the communication between Woize VoIP client that runs in Windows Mobile device and servers of Woize company is not carried out in SIP protocol, but in some other VoIP protocol! The SIP compatibility is achieved by usage of gateways on the server side - not in the Woize for Windows Mobile clients though... Please note that VoIP program for Windows Mobile from Cicero Networks is in fact working over SIP protocol! It is available however now only in a version for Pocket PC, but version for MS Smartphone is underway as you can see in a review here. In other words: while for Pocket PC there are many VoIP programs that are SIP compatible, for MS Smartphone there is only one - from Cicero Networks - but it is in beta version yet - not released publicly yet. The compatibility with SIP is very important because on one hand SIP is a very common standard in many VoIP solutions, and on the other hand nowadays several MS Smarpthone phones offer built-in Wi-Fi, what makes them perfect handsets/terminals for both private and corporate industry standard (i.e. SIP compatible) VoIP! Besides this: SIP is less processor consuming than proprietary protocols like P2P of Skype, so even MS Smartphone and Pocket PC devices with relatively slow processors of 200 MHz can handle SIP easily, while they don't work at all with Skype (voice calls)...
