HTC Wizard cannot be used for war driving ! January 27, 2006 [Pocket PC phone] | By Edward J. R. HTC Wizard - that is sold among others as i-mate K-JAM or T-Mobile MDA Vario - apparently has a Wi-Fi related bug, so that war driving - i.e. driving around and searching for open Wi-Fi hotspots - is not possible with this device.
War driving relies on the Wi-Fi scan information to be up to date so that the currently available APs (Wi-Fi access points) are recorded using the current GPS coordinates. Since the HTC Wizard shows every AP (Wi-Fi access point) it has ever seen as available and with the last known signal strength - it's impossible to allocate coordinates to these networks. With a HTC Wizard every network ever seen is seen everywhere! To learn more click here. Once again this underlines how important it is that operators and distributors release - as often as possible - ROM upgrades with bug fixes and new features! Ability to get frequent ROM upgrades sometimes is more important than initial feature set of given handset... Credit: indiekiduk.
