3GSM 2006 coverage : Day Zero of 3GSM 2006 ended - it all starts tomorrow for real February 12, 2006 [General] | By Edward J. R. Today registration was open for 3GSM participants, but this biggest conference/trade show about mobile phone industry in the world is starting for good tomorrow. On Tuesday (the day after tomorrow) the keynote speech of Steve Ballmer at 3GSM 2006 takes place - where he is expected to tout Microsoft's Direct Push technology as the best invention since sliced bread. Already tomorrow however Microsoft will hold press conference, where first new announcements are expected. Also exhibition part of the event opens tomorrow and first scoops will start flowing... We are now on location in Barcelona, Spain, where 3GSM 2006 takes place and before we will begin (tomorrow) with first live reports and scoops, let's take a look at the venue (photos made today [i.e. Sunday] !!!):
Above you can see that 3GSM 2006 takes place at "Fira de Barcelona" (fair of Barcelona) venue, that is located near "Spain Square" and marked by those 2 unforgettable towers. The street between the towers is the main "backbone" of 3GSM - at both sides of this street several halls with exhibition and conference locations are located. Today various trucks and cars were delivering equipment and materials to stands of exhibitors. Today was the last day, when participating companies were preparing for the 3GSM 2006. Here is the even closer look at these 2 towers that mark 3GSM location:
... and here is the view of these towers from the other side (i.e. from the "Spain Square"):
... where you can see clearly "Main Entrance" sign with 3GSM logos, so it is really really difficult to miss the location! From the point of view of Spain Square, to the left and right of the 2 towers, there are entrances to the venue, with places, where to register:
Interestingly the Symbian (main competitor of Windows Mobile) managed to get pavilion very well located on the main backbone of 3GSM - the street tha runs between the towers:
Microsoft's stands and locations are more hidden one, not visible from the main street of the 3GSM, and may thus be less visible than Symbian's, but let's hope that this little victory of Symbian, before the event even started, will not last over next 4 days, when this majestic event will take place...
