3GSM 2006 coverage : Microsoft releases batch of mobile phone industry news
February 13, 2006 [General] | By Edward J. R.
We expected it to happen Monday afternoon - during Microsoft's press conference at 3GSM, but apparently Microsoft did it on Monday, but just minutes after midnight European time.... here are the news:
Conclusion: as expected Microsoft is pushing the push email based on Direct Push technology and Microsoft Exchange Server 2003, that however will work not only with Windows Mobile phones but also with Symbian and other phones, that have licensed from Microsoft wireless ActiveSync. Of course it is good news to hear that T-Mobile and Vodafone will offer hosted Microsoft Exchange Server accounts with flat rate access - something similar to RIM BlackBerry service, but one must notice that any company that uses Microsoft Exchange Servers can do similar thing without the need to pay anything to mobile operators... Apart from that cheap, mass market, smartphones with EDGE support are coming what is good news but what will not help in solution of the main problem of Windows Mobile platform: lack of UMTS handsets...
