Motorola Vaporware news : UMTS version of Q announced with launch date in distant future (if at all) February 17, 2006 [MS Smartphone] | By Edward J. R. At 3GSM 2006, Motorola was showing only CDMA version of Motorola Q:
... that obviously was not working because there are no CDMA networks in Europe, where 3GSM conference takes place... and furthermore Motorola employees simply didn't know (we asked them too) when Motorola Q for UMTS will be released. While Motorola Q should launch at Verizon Wireless in April as we revealed it as the first in the world, however this still is a soft date so further delay is still possible. So CDMA version of Q is not out yet and Motorola announces already UMTS version, although from the original information from Motorola (see below) it is clear that end users will not be able to purchase Q for UMTS in year 2006! Considering that Motorola's slogan "Q - the thinnest smartphone in the world" no longer is true - now Samsung i320 is the thinnest - it looks like Motorola is in danger of losing momentum for good and users switching instead to new HTC phones with UMTS support (like HTC Hermes that also has a wheel!) or other UMTS phones powered by Windows Mobile, like Pocket Loox T830. Maybe the real name of Q should be Moto VPWR like "vaporware"?
