CeBIT 2006 coverage: MITAC, Mio and GPS products and phones - correction
February 22, 2006 [Pocket PC phone] | By Edward J. R.

Previously we have published information about Mitac not interested anymore in Windows Mobile phones but apparently we confused "Mio Technology" division of MITAC with MITAC itself... so here we reveal that indeed MITAC will be presenting GPS equipped Pocket PC phone (no Wi-Fi but ultra-fast processor of 520 MHz):

... and we also reveal URL where you can find official information about MITAC's/Mio's presence at CeBIT, that includes also official photos of Mio P550 and Mio P350 Pocket PC PDAs...

We have got also correction from MITAC about the distinction between MITAC and Mio:

In fact, “Mio technology limited” is 100% subsidiary from MITAC INTERNATIONAL CORP. “Mio technology limited” is devoted itself to promote new brand name “Mio” GPS product, which are produced by Mitac. Therefore, Mitac is OEM Company, on the other hand, Mio GPS product are sold from “Mio technology limited” for public customers.

Furthermore MITAC invites to CeBIT to visit Mio Technology products for GPS:

At CeBIT, Mio Technology will unveil the new range of mobile GPS devices.

We'll present the long-awaited Mio A701, three next-generation personal navigation devices, two brand-new worthy successors to Mio 168 and the first in a totally new category of GPS devices.

Come visit us in hall 11, stand F54 from March 9 to March 15, 2006.

Please note: at www.mioatcebit.be you can find detailed images of Mio's booth at CeBIT but also photos of Mio P550 and Mio P350 Pocket PC PDAs (that were published lately without giving original sources by some websites; these PDAs however are of no interest to us - as we are focused on Windows Mobile phones, not PDAs) and also the photo of the "long awaited" Mio A701 Pocket PC phone that looks like one of the most powerful Pocket PC phones with built-in GPS (thanks to fast processor of 520 MHz). It lacks however built-in Wi-Fi what can't be overcome with SD/SDIO slot, that usually will be occupied by memory card with maps for nagivation software.

Conclusion: after all MITAC (and its subsidiary Mio Technology) are still interested in Windows Mobile phones and although they produce many GPS devices not powered by Windows Mobile, they apparently are about to release also a Windows Mobile phone!
