Microsoft to announce Origami Project soon February 25, 2006 [mobile PCs (Tablet PC, mini-PC, ...)] | By Edward J. R. Origami Project is a new mobile platform from Microsoft: it is more than Windows Mobile and less than Windows XP Tablet PC Edition... At this time nothing official is known: only that at www.origamiproject.com website on March 2, 2006 this project will be launched. This website also has RSS feed here. Anything else are rumors only. * * * * * Long time ago American company National Semiconductor developed a prototype of mobile device of next generation - also called Origami - learn more about it here. We doubt however Microsoft will present there this prototype from National Semiconductor. The rumor has it, that Microsoft will present there new mobile platform, probably based on Windows Vista and probably also with touch screen support (not digitizer). Obviously Microsoft in most cases (apart from Xbox) is not making hardware, but just software, however Microsoft has practice of publication of hardware requirements for their software... and this "Origami Project" may be just a platform that is a missing chain in mobility evolution: something that Sony already is offering (in form of Sony PSP) and something that Apple plans to release (in form of upcoming mobile device with touch screen and ability to use it by touching more than one point at the same time). From our point of view the most interesting is question whether Origami Project will offer any mobile phone functionality? If the answer is "yes" then the Windows Mobile and Windows CE will no longer be the only Microsoft platforms for mobile phones! If answer is "yes" then also dual core (powered by 2 processors and 2 operating systems: Windows Mobile and Windows XP Tablet PC Edition) platforms like cPC from DualCor Technologies will become obsolete...
