Microsoft Origami = small Tablet PC with wheels and NO mobile phone February 26, 2006 [mobile PCs (Tablet PC, mini-PC, ...)] | By Edward J. R. It looks like we will have to revive our mobile mini PC section... because Microsoft gets serious about them at last! Poor Microsoft: some advertisement agency leaked photos (or rather video advertisement embedded in a Flash presentation) of Microsoft Origami project, that was supposed to be unveiled on March 2, 2006 Apart from being MP3 player, Microsoft Origami should compete with Sony PSP and be mobile gaming console:
... and GPS based car navigation system:
On image above you can also see a wheel in operation - that this user is scrolling with the thumb. It is also presented that Microsoft Origami has USB host feature so it can load pictures from camera:
... and send them over external mobile phone (yes! it has no built-in mobile phone yet!):
... to the office (or home), where another Microsoft Origami sits in a docking station:
... but can be unplugged:
... and the person can use it wirelessly for example why lying comfortable in the garden:
... where you can see Alias Sketchbook application (popular graphics program among Tablet PC users):
... running, and which you can see also in this picture:
Here are 2 another shots of Microsoft Origami:
To see this video advertisement (Flash Presentation) click here here and then click on "enter" and then click on "Work" and then on "Brand Theatre" and then on "Microsoft Origami" and the Flash presentation with embedded video will start playing. * * * * * * Conclusion: Microsoft Origami is just a small Tablet PC! What a disappointment! It doesn't even have mobile phone built-in... and probably it will have touch screen (which has thousand times smaller resolution than digitizer used in contemporary Tablet PC notebooks). Anyway: it is good to see that Microsoft is serious about mobility but the fact that Windows Mobile phone is missing in the presentation and in the whole Microsoft Origami concept, is a bit disappointing. The bottom line is that Microsoft will have at last something to offer against Sony PSP and (upcoming) Apple touchBook (that will have two-point usage interface = more than 2 points on the screen can be touched)... but we must yet see whether this device will be branded by Microsoft and made for Microsoft or whether it will be just "Windows Vista Mobile" platform and destined for manufacturing for big name brands like Toshiba, Sony and other less known...
