HP focuses on mobility ... according to Todd Bradley, VP of HP February 27, 2006 [General] | By Edward J. R. "We will be still competing aggressively in desktop PC business, but when it comes to innovations and new technologies, HP will focus on mobility" ... said Todd Bradly, Vice President of HP. Really? Well, the HP iPAQ hw6500 and hw6900 have no UMTS and are equipped with outdated GPS receiver (not SiRF III) and actually according to rumors are not just manufactured but also designed by HTC. The upcoming HP iPAQ rw6828 is just a clone and knock-off of Xda Atom - both made and designed by Quanta.... so by now indeed HP's "innovation in mobility" was very small (if any). Todd Bradley furthermore says that only 3% of revenues of HP corporation are coming from handheld computers... but now this division has been separated and made an independent division of HP, what increases their importance. "Nowadays handhelds are used mainly for email, but with increasing network capacities of mobile data transfer more and more applications will run in handhelds" ... says also Todd Bradley. Source of the story: German business newspaper Handelsblatt Conclusion: we really hope that HP is serious about mobility and "handhelds" (i.e. Windows Mobile phones) because by now all HP was doing was releasing with big delays inferior technologically products designed and manufactured by folks in Taiwan. HP needs to release Windows Mobile phones with UMTS very soon and needs to respect customers by releasing upgrades (HP hw6515 and HP hw6310 never got upgrades to major version of the OS)... because otherwise Windows Mobile phones from Palm, Samsung, HTC, ETEN, Mitac (Mio) and Motorola will make HP's offering obsolete.
