CeBIT 2006 : Microsoft stand
March 09, 2006 [General] | By Edward J. R.

Unfortunately Microsoft corporation considers CeBIT to be local German event and leaves organization of the whole presence of Microsoft at CeBIT to Microsoft Germany. This is clearly mistake, because Windows Mobile phones are present over all these years still in the main massive, huge, 2-level, Microsoft's stand in Hall 4:

... instead of being relocated to Hall 26 that is specialized in mobile phones. In other words: all people interested in mobile phones anyway go to Hall 26 so it is unwise and wrong for Microsoft to keep Windows Mobile phones part of their stand together with other Microsoft business areas in Hall 4!

As usual at CeBIT the Windows Mobile is a tiny part of the overall Microsoft stand and consists of mini-stands of Microsoft partners in mobility + "2 tables with devices":

... where visitors can play with some devices by touching them and some other devices are behind the glass:

While last year HTC Universal was located "behind the glass" (i.e. not quite ready yet?) this year it were (as you can see on image above): g-smart (with TV tuner that was not working), Asus P525, Eten G500 and Mitac Mio A700 (the Asian version of A701).

As mentioned previously also Microsoft-sponsored mini stands of Microsoft partners were present, including stands of T-Mobile and Vodafone where they were presenting mobile office applications in combination with Windows Mobile devices and their cellular network access:

For many many years Microsoft each year is sponsoring (by giving them space on Microsoft's huge stand) a stand of German online retailer specialized in Windows Mobile - handit.de :

It is unclear why Microsoft for so many years treats preferably in this way only one retailer, and is not alternating and giving each year an opportunity to some other retailer, that sells Windows Mobile phones...

Conclusion: obviously Microsoft's products in mobility are being presented on stands of many Microsoft partners, so clearly Microsoft seems not to need to underline Windows Mobile at CeBIT too much... however we must say that lack of Microsoft's own stand at Hall 26 - that is very specialized in mobile phones and where Sony Ericsson, Nokia and all major mobile phone manufacturers are located - is a big mistake, probably resulting from error in judgement of higher order: considering CeBIT as local German event and thus leaving everything to local German staff - employees of Microsoft Germany! Obviously Microsoft should split big stand in Hall 4 and should relocated parts devoted to Windows Mobile phones to Hall 26! It is good that nowadays Microsoft goes to 3GSM and sends there people from Microsoft USA, because presence of Windows Mobile at Microsoft's stands at CeBIT is pathetic and unsatisfactory.
