Review : HTC Hermes alias T-Mobile MDA Vario II - meet the Nokia killer with TRUE WHEEL March 09, 2006 [Pocket PC phone] | By Edward J. R. Let the power of wheel be with you! This phone is sensational. Imagine having real true wheel (just like in Blackberry devices!). Imagine having built-in fast Wi-Fi (802.11g), Bluetooth 2.0, support both for HDSPA and UMTS! Imagine having phone with 2 cameras, one of them for video calling and the other one for precise pixels with 2 megapixel sensor and macro switch to make photos of close-up objects! Imagine having small PDA phone with video calling: with 2 buttons in hardware for calling and 2 buttons in software for calling - one for video calling (with eye icon on it) and the other for voice-only calling:
Yes, the orientation switching is fully automatic from horizontal:
... to vertical:
... and all you need to do is to pull out the slide out keyboard from the left side! This phone is so fantastic, that sometimes it is breath taking: look, here is a "macro" switch so that you can do photos of close up photos too!:
... and camera has decent 2.1 megapixel of resolution, so photos are usable. Yes, this phone has slide out keyboard but its construction is solid and much more sturdy than in Nokia Communicator phones:
The phone lies comfortably in the hand:
... and thanks to thumb QWERTY keyboard, typing of longer texts is easy:
You can also lock the keys so that no accidental phone calls in the pocket will happen and the keyboard is backlit so you can type in the darkness too:
You don't need to fear that your cable will get lost and you will not be able to recharge or synchronize this phone, because it uses standard mini-USB cable:
Most importantly however we were testing the wheel very thoroughly and it works like in Blackberry - it is not fake wheel (jog dial) but a real wheel that you can scroll without limits and you can press for action of selection:
HTC Hermes will be available as T-Mobile MDA Vario II in Europe, as i-mate JASJAM globally and at some other operators and distributors. This is a phone can make your life much more pleasant and thanks to the sensational wheel, you will be able to use a lot of applications with fantastic ease! HTC Hermes is coming this summer (around July 2006) to an operator or shop near you. Start saving money now!
