Rumor: Microsoft to announce support for touch screen in MS Smartphone at MEDC in May 2006 ! March 11, 2006 [MS Smartphone] | By Edward J. R. By now Windows Mobile consisted of 2 platforms: Pocket PC - for devices with touch screen, and MS Smartphone - for devices without touch screen. It looks like long before Windows Mobile Photon (that will unite these 2 platforms) will be released, Microsoft will introduce support for touch screen also in MS Smartphone platform... The new Windows Mobile 5.0 (WM5) Smartphone emulator sends WM_LBUTTONDOWN messages with (x, y) pointer coordinates when clicking on the display of the Smartphone emulator. Does this mean that soon, some new WM5 Smartphone devices will have touch screens? The major difference between Pocket PC and Smartphone was that only Pocket PC had a touch screen - hence a different UI on the Smartphone, that is designed use without a pointing device. Is MSFT changing that and paving the way for the upcoming release of some WM5 Smartphones with a touch screen? It may be announced at the MEDC (MSFT Embedded Dev Conference) in Las Vegas in May 2006!
