MAJOR BREAKTHROUGH for MS Smartphone platform: AvantGo client available NOW !!! March 29, 2006 [MS Smartphone] | By Edward J. R. After 4 years of waiting the MS Smartphone becomes mainstream and joins other major wireless platforms: 
Yes! AvantGo client for MS Smartphone is available (albeit in beta version) at last! It is worth observing that msmobiles.com is one of very few Windows Mobile sites that are available for off-line reading as full AvantGo channel!!! ... also many other websites and news sources are available as AvantGo channels. So, what is an AvantGo anyway? It is a solution that enables synchronization of news sources at the time when your phone is connected to PC (or otherwise to Internet, for example through Wi-Fi) and then reading it off-line without the need to have Internet access (for example in tube, train, etc). AvantGo uses high compression techniques and it is not your PC computer and not your phone, but AvantGo servers that are fetching the news stories and feed them (in compressed form) to your phone! Apart from service for end users, AvantGo is being offered for internal news distribution for corporations. Conclusion: the release of AvantGo client for MS Smartphone is a major victory for this platform! No longer MS Smartphone users have to look with envy at users of other platforms like Pocket PC, Palm, or Symbian - a satisfied MS Smartphone customer writes: In the last week I have gotten two of my most favorite applications available on the Smartphone now. I picked up a copy of MS Voice Command for the smartphone and now on March 28, 2006 Avantgo was released for the Smartphone [...] Avantgo just sent me an email saying it is now available. This is incredible that all of my favorite Pocket PC applications are available on the smartphone now. Avantgo is awesome if you want to sync news from your Desktop and save Data charges or like me you want to download the news in a friendly small screen format designed for the smartphone screen. Once downloaded all the news you want is only a click away. I also love this program when travelling on an airplane and a wireless signal isn't available. I am a very happy MS Smartphone owner!
