Another review of Mitac Mio A701
April 04, 2006 [Pocket PC phone] | By Edward J. R.
To get a Pocket PC phone with built-in GPS receiver you don't have to buy a phone from HP corporation because now also other manufacturers offer them, for example: E-TEN G500 and Mitac Mio A701 presented in this review:
This review is in Italian, however it has many photos, screen shots and details, so it may be worth viewing. Here some highlights about this review:
- first page reveals specifications and what is in the box. Interestingly Bluetooth 1.2 is used although some Windows Mobile phones already offer Bluetooth 2.0. The phone is powered by super fast Intel processor of speed 520 MHz that is roughly as fast as Samsung 400 MHz. In the box one can find car mount and car charging accessories - as it is typical in case of Pocket PC phones with built-in GPS.
- second page shows how stylish this phone is and how it compares to some other small Pocket PC phones
- third page shows screen shots of add-on applications that Mitac is delivering with the phone
- page four reveals that Mio A701 has no A2DP Bluetooth profile so it looks like now the only Pocket Pc phone with stereo audio over Bluetooth support is ETEN G500...
- page five depicts the built-in GPS receiver of this phone: apart from the fact that the GPS receiver is of latest generation (SiRF III - unlike in Pocket PC phones from HP that have older generation) there is also application "Quick Position" attached that thanks to assisted GPS (A-GPS) technology can help you to get GPS fix faster.
- page six presents benchmarks and conclusions
All in all the Mitac Mio A701 is a solid Pocket PC phone and having built-in GPS constitutes huge comfort - particularly for people who are traveling from time to time, so this phone may be worth considering...
